Mo Cherry

Norfolk-born artist Maureen Cherry has lived and worked in North Norfolk since 2000. Alongside her life in England, she spent part of each year painting in Valencia on Spain’s Costa Blanca, where she held regular exhibitions and embraced the fresh perspectives and vibrant influences that the Spanish landscape brought to her work.

Mo has enjoyed considerable success in both solo and group exhibitions

Maureen studied at Great Yarmouth Art College, Norwich School of Art, and Lowestoft College of Art, developing a distinctive artistic style inspired by the natural world. Throughout her career, she has enjoyed considerable success in both solo and group exhibitions across East Anglia and beyond. Her work has also been selected for exhibition by prestigious organisations including the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Society of Women Artists.

The strongest artistic connection is with the North Sea

The ever-changing movement of skies, seas, pools, and inland waterways provides a constant source of inspiration for Maureen, as do the rich colours of flowers and the subtle suggestion of the human form. Her strongest artistic connection is with the North Sea, whose shifting moods have long captivated her imagination. Through her paintings, she seeks to capture the sea’s remarkable contrasts—from moments of serenity and tranquillity to its raw power and ferocity.

Conveying emotion, atmosphere, freedom, and occasional destruction

Maureen’s work reflects both the beauty and the relentless force of nature. She is particularly drawn to the dramatic impact of the sea upon cliffs, shingle banks, salt marshes, and coastal defences, conveying the emotion, atmosphere, freedom, and occasional destruction created by these powerful waters that surround the British Isles.

Her paintings have been exhibited extensively throughout Norfolk, Suffolk, and London, as well as internationally in Zwolle (The Netherlands), Costa Blanca (Spain), Normandy (France), Dubai, and the United Arab Emirates.
