Unseen dimensions of human experience
Inspired by the Norfolk countryside, Susanne Lakin is a mixed media artist whose work involves a lively, colourful response to her subject matter and hints at the unseen dimensions of human experience. Largely self taught she has developed her practice through experimentation and participating with other artists in group activities and exhibitions across Norfolk and Yorkshire.
Experimentation is central to her process
Susanne works with collage, acrylics, pastels, gouache, inks and print effects combining media, texture and colour to create richly layered organic images. Experimentation is central to her process. She enjoys building up surfaces and allowing forms, moods and meanings to emerge naturally.
Going behind the curtain
Her work is influenced by metaphysical ideas with movement and energy at the heart of her enquiry. As a holistic therapist trained in Chiropractic and Kinesiology she is interested in going behind the curtain and exploring not only what is seen but what is felt and the subtle forces beyond everyday reality. The images are often slightly surreal, puzzling or ambiguous and invite personal interpretation.
Published works
Susanne has also published 2 self-help books:
โChronic Illness and Addictions: 5 steps to changeโ and โBody Talk: the message of pain and chronic illnessโ. Both these books explore the imbalances on all energy levels (physical, emotional, mental and energetic) which are associated with particular physical/emotional problems. They include simple self-help techniques to release the stress associated with blockages to enhance healing and create change.
She has also written โAtoms in Action: the adventures of chemical atomsโ. This is an illustrated imaginative book aimed at children and adults of all ages. It highlights the properties of particular atoms through their adventures.
Susanneโs Birthday Book includes images of each of the star signs printed from her original pictures.
A desire to explore
